eAudiobooks

eAudiobooks are books that you can listen to on your smartphone, iPod, MP3 player, tablet or computer. We have thousands of titles to choose from.

To borrow an eAudiobook you will need a Toowoomba Region Libraries membership number and a PIN. If you are currently not a Toowoomba Region library member, you can join online for free here.

eAudiobook platforms

We have 3 eAudiobook platforms: BorrowBox (Bolinda), OverDrive | Libby and hoopla.

  • Borrowbox: Our BorrowBox platform continues to provide a great range of titles that are suitable for junior, young adult and adult audiences.
  • OverDrive | Libby: The majority of titles available from our OverDrive | Libby platform have no waiting periods, you can borrow and checkout titles immediately.
  • hoopla: there are no waiting periods on the hoopla platform, you can borrow and checkout titles immediately.

Loan periods

The loan period is 14 days for both BorrowBox and Overdrive | Libby.

BorrowBox - you may borrow up to 4 eAudiobooks. Note: Borrowbox will count reservations as a loan. Loans may be renewed twice or you can return your eAudiobooks early if you wish to borrow more

OverDrive | Libby - you may borrow up to 10 titles (ebooks and/or eAudiobooks). You can return your eAudiobooks early if you wish to borrow more.

There are no limits to the number of renewals. If there are reservations for the title, your renewal will be placed in the queue. Once you reach the top place in the queue, the title will check out to you and open where you left off.

hoopla

There are no waiting periods with hoopla, you can borrow and checkout titles immediately.

Library members can borrow up to 8 items (across the platform) per month, the loan period for eAudiobooks is 21 days and loan credits reset on the 1st of each month.

Listening to eAudiobooks on mobile devices

BorrowBox, OverDrive | Libby and hoopla apps are available in the Apple App store or Google Play for Android devices. The Libby and hoopla apps are also available for Amazon Kindle Fire.

How to set up the Libby by OverDrive app

Libby by OverDrive is a free mobile app that enables our library members to borrow and download eAudiobooks, eBooks and eMagazines. The app incorporates a dedicated eBook and eMagazine reader and an eAudiobook player.

  1. Install the Libby by OverDrive app.
  2. Add a library (Toowoomba Region Libraries)
  3. Add your library card - enter your library card number (barcode) and PIN.

Browsing and borrowing

  1. Select Explore to browse titles.
  2. Tap on a title cover to borrow.
  3. Tap the title on your shelf to download and/or listen to your eAudiobook

Managing your loans

Loan limits and renewals

You may borrow up to 10 titles (eAudiobooks have a 14 day loan period). Loans may be renewed twice.

Renewing loans and returning titles early

  1. Tap Shelf.
  2. Find the title and tap Manage Loan.
  3. Select Return Early to return the title or Renew Loan to renew your loan for another 2 weeks.

Setting up Borrowbox

  1. Install and Open Borrowbox
  2. Setup your account:
    • In the Library panel and start typing Toow and tap Toowoomba Region Libraries when it appears.
    • Enter your library card number in the “ID/Barcode” panel
    • Enter your library PIN in the “PIN/Password” panel
    • Tap Sign in
    • Tap Agree to agree to the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
    • Enter your email address in the “Complete Registration” screen and tap Done

Browsing and Borrowing

Use the navigation bar to browse eAudiobook titles by category, genre or keyword search.

Hint: to limit searches to titles available for immediate loan, select Available only from the toolbar.

  1. Tap the eAudiobook icon
  2. Browse collections by categories, genres or keywords and make your selection by tapping the cover of the title.
    Tap “Borrow and Confirm Loan”
    Tap “Download Now” to download to your device.
    Tap “My Loans” to locate your eAudiobook.
  3. Listen (play) your book using the Borrowbox app on your mobile device.

Reset Borrowbox App

Apple:

Navigate to the Settings tab, go to the Account Details section and press the Reset button. Please note that all current downloads will be lost. You will then be asked to sign in again.

Android:

Press the Menu button at the top right of the screen or on some devices below the screen and select Account Details. On the following screen select the Reset App option.

Instructions for installing and setting up hoopla

  • Download the hoopla app from App Store iOS (Apple) or Google Play (Android)
  • Signup with an email address and password, find your library (Toowoomba Region Libraries) and enter your library card number and PIN. Once your account is set up, you'll sign in with the email address and password you created.

Search & borrow

  • Search for Audiobooks. Then borrow a title by tapping/clicking the title's icon and selecting borrow.
  • Library members can borrow up to 6 items per month
  • Loan credits reset on the 1st of each month

Loan periods

A Renew option is available for titles that are currently on loan to you and is visible 24 hours before the title expires. You can opt to renew the title or let it return automatically at the end of the loan period. The Renew option is helpful if you want to “check out” the title again and if the title has been downloaded, it does not have be downloaded again to your device. A Renewal does count towards your loan count for the month.

Enjoy

Stream the item by pressing play or download it to your device to hear, read and watch it. You'll need to download it if you plan on using your item without wifi.

Using a computer for OverDrive | Libby

How to access OverDrive | Libby on a computer

You will need your library card and PIN to set up or sign in to your account.

In your web browser go to libbyapp.com to get started using Libby. Add a library (Toowoomba Region Libraries) and add your library card - enter your library card number (barcode) and PIN.

If you cannot use libbyapp.com you can use our Toowoomba Region Libraries platform instead. This alternative has the same titles as Libby, but offer slightly different features and device compatibility.

Browsing and borrowing

  1. Select Explore to browse titles.
  2. Tap on a title cover to borrow.
  3. Tap the title on your shelf to listen to your eAudiobook

How to listen to eAudiobooks on a computer

Download eAudiobooks

On the Download page, choose to download an eAudiobook either in a single download or in parts.

If you get a pop-up with options to Open, Run or Save your loan when you download, make sure that you select Save, otherwise, the eAudiobook will not save to your computer properly.

Unzip eAudiobook Downloads

PC

Locate your downloaded eAudiobook folder, right click and select Extract All, then follow the prompts to finish unzipping.

MAC

Locate your eAudiobook folder, then double click to unzip.

Tips

Your downloaded eAudiobook folder will be located where you have set your internet browser to download to (e.g. Downloads, Desktop, etc).

For Mac users, we recommend using Safari as your internet browser as unzipping occurs automatically.

For those Mac users running the latest Mac OS, depending on your settings the eAudiobook may automatically populate into iTunes also.

Listen to eAudiobooks

PC

  • iTunes: Open iTunes, drag and drop the unzipped eAudiobook folder into Music, then listen or sync with your iPod or iPhone.
  • Windows Media Player: Open Windows Media Player, select Music, drag and drop the unzipped eAudiobook folder into main window, then listen or sync with your portable media device.
  • Portable Media Device (without software): Connect and open your portable media device, then drag and drop the unzipped eAudiobook folder into device.

MAC

  • iTunes: Open iTunes, drag and drop unzipped eAudiobook folder into Music, then listen or sync with your iPod or iPhone.
  • Portable Media Device: Connect and open your portable media device, then drag and drop the unzipped eAudiobook folder into device.

MP3 players

Extensive help is available for downloading eAudiobooks for MP3 players on https://library.bolindadigital.com/toowoomba. To access help you will be required login with your library account and PIN.

Using a computer for hoopla

eAudiobooks may be streamed on hoopla. hoopla supports the following browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. It is recommended using the latest version of any browser to ensure you have the best possible user experience.

Getting started

  • Go to hoopla
