Healthy animals
There are several options you may take to help reunite lost animals with their owners.
During Animal Management Centre office hours, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 4.30pm
- If you have found a dog with a registration tag, call 131 872 and our staff will try to put you in contact with the owner.
- Bring the animal to the Animal Management Centre.
- Safely contain the animal at your home and call us on 131 872 during business hours to request collection.
- Take the animal to a vet to be checked for a microchip. It's best to call the vet prior to attending to check if the microchip scanning service is free of charge.
- Post a photo of the animal and the roaming details on social media.
Outside of Animal Management Centre office hours
We do not offer an after-hours animal collection service. Instead, you can use the following options:
Sick or injured animals
- Secure the animal if it is safe to do so.
- Take the animal to a vet, call the RSPCA on 1300 264 625 or if it's a dog with a registration tag, call 131 872 at any time and our staff will try to put you in contact with the owner.
We will not attend to currently roaming feral animals, poultry, cats or wildlife.
Roaming livestock
If you see livestock currently roaming, please call us on 131 872 with a description of the livestock, number of animals roaming and location.
Roaming cats
If you find a cat wandering and you know where it lives, contact the owner; if you feel comfortable doing so.
If you are uncomfortable discussing the issue with the owner, please report the problem to us.
Report a nuisance animal
If you don't know where the cat belongs, you can hire an animal trap.
Hire an animal trap
