Clifton Road, North Branch Upgrade Project
We will be upgrading a section of Clifton Road, North Branch extending from the Leslie Bridge Road intersection to approximately 3.7 kilometres east.
The project includes:
- widening the existing roadway to 8 metres
- pavement reconstruction
- associated drainage improvement works.
Once completed, the upgraded road will provide safer and more reliable access for all road users, including local residents, agricultural operations and heavy vehicles.
Start date
- 7 April 2026 - the project team will begin site setup works.
- The hard road closure will commence 15 April 2026.
Target completion date
December 2026, weather permitting.
Road closure and detours
A full road closure will be in place from 15 April 2026 to completion of works in December 2026 on Clifton Road between Leslie Bridge Road and Volker Road intersections.
Through traffic will be detoured via:
- Pittsworth-Felton Road
- Toowoomba-Karara Road.
Detour routes will be clearly signposted and communicated ahead of the closure.
The road closure will allow the works to be completed as efficiently as possible and minimise overall disruption.

What to expect during construction
Residents and road users may notice:
- works occurring Monday to Friday, 6am to 6pm (occasional weekend works may be required)
- increased construction vehicles and machinery
- increased traffic volumes
- potential delays on surrounding detour roads
- changes to access arrangements for properties within the closure.
We will make every effort to minimise disruption and appreciates the community’s patience while these important works are completed.
