Joining the library

Library membership is available free to any resident of Queensland who is able to provide proof of their residential address. 

You can join in person at any of our library branches by presenting proof of your name and current address. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 16 years require a signature from their parent or guardian.

 

Online membership

Online membership provides access to our electronic resources such as eBooks and eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eComics, eMusic, video streaming services, online learning platforms, online databases, and more. Online memberships are free and you can join here

 

Number of items able to be borrowed

Members may borrow a maximum of 20 physical items, this can be a combination of items such as books, magazines, DVD, CDs or CD Books.

 

Loan periods for library items

The general loan period is 28 days for most items, with a maximum of two renewals.

 

Borrowing without your library card

You may borrow using your library card or proof of name and address. Please take care of your card and don't lend it to another person, as the owner of the card is responsible for items issued to the card.

If you lose your card, please notify the library immediately to arrange a replacement card.

 

Changing home address

Members are able to change their contact details and address online. Alternatively, advise your local library by telephone, or in-person the next time you visit.

 

How to return books when the library is closed

All of our libraries have an after-hours returns chute available year-round.

 

Loan renewals

Most of our physical items may be renewed a maximum of two times.

Where possible, our library system will automatically renew your loans two times. If your item has other customer reservations waiting, your loan will not be eligible for renewal. A loan reminder notice will be sent to you for any items that are not eligible to be renewed.

Overdue charges

If library items are overdue, we will issue an overdue notice to you via your preferred communication method, but the responsibility is always on you to return the books on time and in good condition.

If you fail to return the overdue items, a further notice will be issued to you, a replacement charge will be payable, and borrowing privileges may be suspended until the items are paid for or returned in good condition.

When an item you have reserved is ready for collection, you will be advised by your nominated communication method (email, SMS or mail) that the item is being held for you at your nominated library branch for one week.

 

Can’t find the title you’re looking for? Make a request

Login and make a request via our online catalogue. We can attempt to purchase your item or source it from another library service via an inter-library loan. Some charges may apply for inter-library loans. If that is the case, we will check with you first to see if you would like us to proceed sourcing the item.
