When you're packing your vehicle and/or trailer for a trip to your local waste facility, group similar materials together.
By taking a little extra time to sort your load before you leave home, you can save yourself plenty of time when you arrive at the disposal site. Consider which areas you will need to visit and load your vehicle/trailer accordingly. The last item in your vehicle/trailer will be the first to be unloaded.
From 1 July 2018 the fee structure at our waste facilities will be structured to support recycling as a priority over landfill. Loads that are not sorted into the following categories may incur extra fees.
At your local waste facility there are most likely* up to three separate areas for unloading waste materials. These are, in order:
Bulk material area - This is the area for large recyclable items and bulk quantities of recyclable materials. Eg: Green waste**.
Resource recovery area - This is the area for smaller quantities of recyclable materials. Eg: Cardboard and paper, plastic bottles and containers**.
Residual waste area - All other waste goes to this area. Eg: General waste (non-hazardous)**.
* Some older-style facilities may not be set up like this yet. These are in the process of being upgraded in the near future.
** Check your specific waste facility for detailed information about accepted waste types.
Information on which waste materials can and can’t be accepted at each waste facility, as well as facility operating hours, locations and fees, can be found in Waste facilities - operating hours, locations, fees & accepted waste materials.

From 1 July 2018, domestic waste fees will be based on a weight threshold of 400Kg per trip. Not many of us have a weigh bridge in our back yard so here are a few examples of some typical weights for domestic ute and trailer loads of waste.
