Vehicle and trailer loading tips
When you're packing your vehicle or trailer for a trip to your local waste facility, group similar materials together. This will save time when you arrive at the disposal site. Consider which areas you will need to visit and load your vehicle or trailer accordingly, the last item packed will be the first to be unloaded.
Always assure your own safety and that of other road users by properly containing and securing your load and towing safely.
Packing order
At your local waste facility there are three separate areas for unloading waste materials. These are, in order:
- Bulk material area - this is the area for large recyclable items and bulk quantities of recyclable materials such as:
- green waste
- timber waste
- scrap metal
- concrete
- clean soil
- refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.
- Resource recovery area - this is the area for smaller quantities of recyclable materials such as:
- cardboard
- mixed recyclables e.g. plastic bottles and containers with recycling symbols 1-7, milk and juice containers, paper and cardboard, steel cans.
- car and truck batteries
- motor oil from household sources only, no cooking oil, transmission oil or hydraulic fluids and a maximum 20L per visit.
- Residual waste area - all other waste goes to this area:
- general non-hazardous waste
- engineered stone products.
Information on which waste materials can and can’t be accepted at each waste facility, as well as facility operating hours, locations and fees, can be found in Find a waste facility.
Waste fees by weight
The majority of domestic waste fees are based on a weight threshold of 400kg free per trip. We've provided a few examples of some typical weights for domestic ute and trailer loads of waste.
Commercial fees are also based on weight and the type of waste.
