Wilsonton Heights Park

The park comprises a wide variety of facilities which provide opportunities for young and old. There is a fenced playground area for young children with two shelters and a toilet amenity block. This area is popular with families and for small children’s get-togethers.  There are also barbecue and picnic areas adjacent to the children's fenced playground, designed for community gatherings.

There is a playground suitable for older children and teenagers, kick-about areas and a skating track.

There are numerous, pathways throughout the park which are popular for walking, jogging and cycling. The connecting paths meander through the various elements of the park and bring park users in close contact with the native vegetation encouraging educational opportunities. There are also several exercise hubs dotted throughout the park which contain various exercise equipment.

A toilet block and off-street parking area are located near the children's playground near the corner of Tor Street and Wine Drive.

This toilet block has previously been subject to frequent vandalisation. The toilets have re-opened, however occasionally need to close for completion of repairs.

The extensive dog off-leash areas cover 2.6 hectares and provide nice open areas for dog owners to walk their dogs. There is also a dog agility area for exercising and providing a novel experience for park users and their dogs.

Dogs can run off-leash only in the area north of the park's central pathway.

The park features various native landscaping, including native tree and bush food plantings including feature tree groves of Melaleuca, Casuarina and Eucalyptus and native grassland areas, which enhance the natural recreation experience for the local community.  

The landscaping was designed to incorporate walking pathways throughout the plantings to provide educational opportunities for the community to learn about the natural environment of the region, and the strong aboriginal heritage of the area.

The park design was inspired by the plants, colours and forms of the natural environment of the region and the strong aboriginal heritage of the area.

Public aboriginal artwork is a connecting theme throughout the park with pieces from local artists which enable the community to share their stories. The artwork provides educational opportunities for park users.

A major focal point of the park are the numerous Aboriginal totem artworks, which have been placed next to native tree plantings at connecting path junctures.  The designs of the totems were inspired by community participation groups and provide further educational opportunities.
