George Essex Evans memorial

A memorial exists in Webb Park in honour of the famous poet George Essex Evans (1863-1909). Evans settled in Queensland from England. He achieved national fame for his patriotic poems, such as Ode for Commonwealth Day. The monument, featuring some of his poetry, was erected at Webb Park to celebrate Evans' life and poetic achievements.
