Spring Bluff

Visit Spring Bluff and experience a special part of local history.

The park is named after the Spring Bluff Railway Station. The Spring Bluff Railway Station was built in the 1860s to allow trains a place to stop during the steep climb from Brisbane to Toowoomba. It was named Spring Bluff after the spring water and the sandstone bluff in the area. Its significance stems from 150 years of railway history and the attraction of its beautiful, landscaped gardens. The railway station closed in August 1992. 

The station and its gardens are heritage listed. The flower display is absolutely stunning with thousands of visitors during the Carnival of Flowers in September each year.

On 17 March 1942, 1000-strong men departed Borneo Barracks in Cabarlah at 2am and marched down the escarpment to Spring Bluff Railway Station to board a train to Brisbane in preparation for World War II.

If you bring your dog, please keep it on-leash.

How to get there

Spring Bluff is situated 15km north of Toowoomba city. Take the New England Highway towards Highfields. Turn right onto Murphy’s Creek Road and drive for about 10km. Turn left onto McCormack Drive and drive up the hill for another 600m.

Park your car at the entrance to the train station and be prepared to go back in time.

Park and gardens

The surrounding gardens are a must-see location and transform into stunning displays of colour and activity during the Springtime months. 

Some of the magnificent plantings include poppies, ranunculus, stock, snapdragons, petunias and many other annuals bursting into colour.

Spring Bluff Park is renowned for its surrounding garden features which provide spectacular views in Spring and a lovely barbecue and picnic area for visitors and residents alike.

Some walking tracks can be found from the top (northern) area of the park.

Spring Bluff Cafe

Please note Spring Bluff Cafe is currently closed.

Spring Bluff Cafe is located in the original Station Master's Cottage. Its beautiful and tranquil setting provides a unique cafe experience for visitors. Guests can sit inside or outside on the cafe's verandah where they'll be serenaded by local birdlife. 

Railway Station

Visitors come from far and wide to visit Spring Bluff Railway Station to view its gardens and also to experience the special event train rides on offer throughout the year which provide visitors with another vantage point to enjoy the surrounding gardens.

Walking trail

Spring Bluff Walking Circuit

Best for: Bushwalking

Classification: Bushwalking (Grade 3)

Distance:  545m loop

Walking time: 20 minutes 

Description: The trail starts in the picnic area, behind the pergola. It takes you across a metal bridge that spans a creek and winds amongst the forest. It requires a bit of energy to go through a short uphill section but it’s definitely worth the effort.

The walk turns right and takes you over a beautiful creek decorated with fern trees and along a rock wall where you can see the enormous root of the fig trees that grow in the area. The track then goes downhill and back to the picnic area. On the way you will pass old big hall and walk on a sealed walkway. Please keep to the formed loop track at all times as this will assist with the safe management of neighbouring properties' activities
