Work has begun on the Highfields Road Intersections Upgrade Project, with Council crews beginning Stage 1 ‘greenfield’ works on New O’Brien Road.
TRC Construction and Maintenance portfolio spokesperson Councillor Carol Taylor said it was important residents stay informed on the project.
“As Highfields continues to grow, it’s critical we invest in the roads, services and public spaces that support our residents, local businesses and future development.
“We invite the community to stay informed about the upgrades as we expect various road closures and detours for Central Highfields to be in place for around 12 months,” Cr Taylor said.
“Council will ensure traffic management is implemented to keep construction workers, road users, pedestrians and cyclists safe. This will also ensure we maintain access at Highfields for general traffic and to surrounding businesses and schools,” she said.
Key upgrades include:
Cr Taylor acknowledged the support of the Queensland State Government, which contributed $20.1 million through the Residential Activation Fund Round 1.
“This project delivers critical trunk infrastructure to unlock new dwellings across greenfield and infill sites which addresses long-standing infrastructure barriers in Central Highfields,” she said.
