Toowoomba Region to go green and gold to mark Olympic milestone

Toowoomba is set to shine in green and gold as the region joins communities across Queensland in celebrating two major milestones on the road to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
On 23 July, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will light up iconic landmarks including Toowoomba City Hall and the Victoria Street Bridge in green and gold to mark six years to go until the Olympic Games. Just one month later, the city will glow again on 24 August to celebrate six years to go until the Paralympic Games.
Local businesses and organisations are being encouraged to join the celebration by decorating shopfronts, offices and community spaces in Australia's national colours.
TRC Mayor Geoff McDonald said the countdown celebrations were an exciting opportunity to bring the community together and build momentum towards 2032.
"There's a real buzz building across our region as we head towards Brisbane 2032, and these milestone moments are the perfect chance to show our Olympic spirit," Mayor McDonald said.
"Lighting up City Hall and the Victoria Street Bridge in green and gold will be a fantastic visual celebration, and we'd love to see businesses and residents right across the Toowoomba Region get involved and join the fun."
Mayor McDonald said the Toowoomba Region had a unique role to play in the Games and was already embracing the opportunities that come with being part of an Olympic host region.
"As the home of one of Australia's most productive agricultural regions, we know what it means to feed the nation. In 2032, we'll have the opportunity to feed, host and embrace the world."
"We'll showcase not only world-class competition, but also the hospitality, resilience and community spirit that define our region. It's a chance to welcome thousands of athletes, officials and visitors and give them an unforgettable Queensland country experience."
"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to put our region on the global stage, create lasting economic benefits and leave a legacy that future generations will be proud of.
"These countdown events are just the beginning and they're a great reminder that 2032 is closer than we think,” Mayor McDonald said.
Council is encouraging everyone to share their green and gold displays on social media and help spread the Olympic and Paralympic spirit throughout the region. The hashtags #Brisbane2032 and #6YTG will be used to amplify the celebration across Queensland.
