Spring into action for Australia’s Great Spring Clean Up

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is encouraging residents, schools, community groups and local businesses to take part in the Great Spring Clean Up, running nationwide throughout September and October, to help protect the places that make the Region special.
The Great Spring Clean Up is an opportunity for people to reconnect with the places they live, work and play, while making a visible difference in their neighbourhoods, parks, roadsides and community spaces.
By removing litter before it washes into waterways, harms wildlife or spreads further through the environment, residents can play an important role in keeping the Toowoomba Region clean, healthy and welcoming.
TRC Waste portfolio spokesperson Cr Melissa Taylor said the Great Spring Clean Up was a simple but meaningful way for residents to show pride in their local area and demonstrate how small actions can make a lasting difference.
“The Great Spring Clean Up is about community pride, practical action and people coming together to care for the places they value the most,” she said.
“Whether you pick up litter at a local park, tidy a roadside, help clean around a community facility or organise a group activity, every effort helps create cleaner and safer spaces for everyone to enjoy.”
Residents can get involved by gathering a Clean Up crew, choosing a place that matters to them and registering their Great Spring Clean Up activity.
Participants are encouraged to wear suitable clothing, use gloves where possible, stay safe near roads and waterways, and dispose of collected litter responsibly.
“Spring is the perfect time to step outside, see your local area with fresh eyes and take simple action that delivers lasting environmental benefits,” Cr Taylor said.
“We encourage residents to take part in whatever way they can. A few minutes of effort, especially when multiplied across the Region, can make a real difference.”
Residents, schools, community groups and businesses can register a Great Spring Clean Up event at https://cleanup.org.au and take part at any time during September and October, helping keep the Toowoomba Region looking its best this spring.
