Have your say on the future of McLachlan Drive Park

McLachlan Drive Park could become one of Highfields’ go-to places to play, exercise, catch up with friends or simply relax, and Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting locals to help shape what comes next.

Council is developing a concept plan to guide the park’s upgrade to a District Recreation Park.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said with Highfields continuing to grow, it was the right time to think bigger about the park.

“McLachlan Drive Park has plenty of potential and we want the community to help us unlock it,” Cr McMahon said.

“We want to create a park where you can bring the kids for a play, kick a ball, go for a walk or ride, fire up a barbecue or just find a shady spot and relax.

“There’s an opportunity to make this a fantastic community space for Highfields, but before we start drawing lines on a plan, we want to hear from the people who’ll actually use it.

“Highfields is growing and we need to make sure the community spaces people use every day are growing with it.”

The upgrade could pave the way for a broader mix of facilities including play and exercise areas, picnic shelters and barbecues, walking and cycling paths, toilets, seating, trees and landscaping, lighting and car parking.

Cr McMahon said community feedback would help Council determine what should be prioritised in the future concept plan.

“We’ve got a great opportunity here to create something that really works for Highfields, so jump online, share your ideas and help us shape the future of McLachlan Drive Park.”

Council invites the community to a pop-up session in the park on Saturday 17 October from 9am-11am. Council staff will be on hand to take direct community feedback on future plans.

Consultation is now also open online until Sunday, 25 October 2026.
