There are currently no active swim school programs. Information will be provided here once classes are available to be booked.
Waves Swim School active programs for children from 6 months old through to adult swimmers are available at Milne Bay Aquatic & Fitness Centre in our heated indoor and outdoor pool. Classes for children 2 years through to adult swimmers are available at Highfields Fitness & Recreation Centre during summer in the heated outdoor pool.
We are committed to providing excellent aquatic programs that best meet the needs of our clients. We boast a 13 level swim program that allows for children to increase levels when reached by achieving set skills. The participants are encouraged to progress steadily at their own pace. Lessons are limited to small class sizes and run for 30 to 60 minutes to ensure the maximum benefit is received from the program.

We are Swim Australia recognised and all our instructors are Swim Australia/ Austswim qualified and CPR certified.
Program and lesson times vary according to level of ability. Please confirm the day and time of lessons with staff at time of enrolment.
The cost for Waves Swim School is $14 for the first child per lesson, $13 for the second child and $12 for three or more children in the same family.

Lessons will not be run on public holidays. Those terms including public holidays will not be charged to your account.
Make up classes are not offered for missed lessons. If a current doctors certificate is produced, a credit for the missed class will be placed on your account. If a lesson is cancelled due to weather conditions a make up class may be offered in the first week of following school holiday period.
Full payment is required at time of booking confirmation. Weekly, monthly and part payments are not available. Family discounts are available for two or more children.
A refund will only be granted when it is for a medical condition and a current doctors certificate is produced covering the dates of the term the child/ren are booked.
Refunds will not be given for participants choosing to cancel out of the learn to swim program.
Milne Bay and Highfields Waves swim school management reserves the right to alter the swim school program at any time. This may include but is not limited to changing class times, instructors or format.
If you want to change your lesson’s day, time or instructor, you will be placed on a waiting list and informed of the availability.
Paid learn to swim clients may swim before or after their lesson free of charge, only when their membership card is presented at reception. Family members of learn to swim clients who wish to swim must pay pool entry fee. Immediate family members are allowed free entry to spectate students in their learn to swim class.
If your instructor is away, every effort will be made to organise a replacement instructor. If a replacement instructor is not available a credit will be applied to your account.
All children attending learn to swim lessons at the Waves Swim School must have a parent or guardian present in the centre at all times. Parents or guardians are to scan children into the centre at the reception area; children are not to be dropped off at the front doors. It is the parent or guardian's responsibility to ensure children attend the correct class at the correct time. Extra time or a refund will not be granted.
Students are not to enter the hydrotherapy pool for their lesson until directed, by their instructor. Family members of participants in lessons in the hydrotherapy pool are not to use the pool as recreational swimming.
Children who are being unsafe in their class will be asked by their instructor to sit on the edge of the pool. If the child's behaviour continues it is the parent's responsibility to resolve the situation in the most appropriate way. If we all work together we can insure a safe, productive but most importantly, enjoyable learning environment for all concerned. If your child needs to be removed from the lesson due to inappropriate behaviour, a refund will not be attainable.
Food or drink is not permitted in or around the pool areas (except a water bottle). Food is to be consumed on the grey area in front of the Beach Café only. Bottles and glass wear containers are not permitted on the premises. Plastic cups may be brought into the centre; cups from the café incur a cost.
All personal information collected is to be used only for the purpose of conducting business in accordance with the Local Government Act 1999. All Milne Bay And Highfields Aquatic Centre membership, enrolment and medical information are confidential and will be treated as such.
You are welcome to take photos or videos of your child: however it is a requirement that you gain permission from the instructor and parents before taking pictures of other children. Parents must fill out an application for permission form in order to take an image. Forms are located at the front desk for your use.
Children 6 years and over are not to use the opposite sex change rooms. A family room is located outside the change rooms near the reception desk.
In the event of storms or severe weather it will be management’s decision to cancel classes and a makeup class may be offered in the first week of following school holiday period.

We are running learn to swim classes for adults only. If you have some knowledge on how to swim and would like to improve your skills, or are a complete beginner, this class is perfect for you. Throughout the class you will have a qualified instructor in the water with you guiding you through step by step at the pace you want to go. The class has a maximum of 4 participants per class, allowing the instructor to concentrate on all participants. You are never too old to start learning an important life skill!
$14 per lesson = $140 for 10 x 30 minute classes.

Adult SwimFit classes have been designed to help push your limits, improve stroke correction and development while you enjoy a fun, friendly and professionally instructed group environment. Whether you're looking to improve your swimming skills and speed or just looking to get your general fitness back up and swimming, this is the perfect group for you!
$10 (casual) per session or you can purchase a ten session pack for $80.
Each school term we dedicate 1 full week to safety in and around aquatic environments, following the guidelines from Royal Life Saving’s swim and survive programs. Children are encouraged to participate by answering questions, and learning different survival skills. During this week children take part in circuits that involve wearing a personal flotation device, use various flotation aids like balls and eskys, perform basic rescues using clothing and towels, tread water and learn to swim through currents.
