Upgrade work to get underway on Gowrie Street in Kingsthorpe
Published on 17 March 2026
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will soon begin construction works on Gowrie Street in Kingsthorpe between Goombungee Road and East Street, delivering safer, more reliable access for all road users.
TRC Construction and Maintenance portfolio spokesperson Councillor Carol Taylor said the road reconstruction project would start on Tuesday 17 March.
“This upgrade is an important investment in the safety and resilience of our local road network,” Cr Taylor said.
“Once complete, the upgraded road will enhance safety and reliability for motorists, pedestrians and local residents in Kingsthorpe.”
Cr Taylor said construction works would take place on weekdays between 6am and 6pm, with occasional weekend work as required.
“To safely complete these works, road and footpath closures will be necessary, including full road closures on Gowrie Street between Goombungee Road and East Street.
“Detours, traffic controllers and signage will be in place to guide pedestrians and motorists through the changed conditions.
“Council will work to minimise disruptions, including maintaining access to businesses located along this section, and encourages the community to continue to support these businesses during the works.
“We thank the community for its patience and cooperation during this important upgrade.”
Construction is expected to be completed by late August 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
The project is supported by the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program.
