Community invited to learn about Central Highfields Activation Project
Published on 06 March 2026
With the sod officially turned on the project, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting residents to find out more about the Central Highfields Activation Project, with a series of information sessions to be held.
TRC Construction and Maintenance portfolio spokesperson Councillor Carol Taylor said it was important residents were able to engage with Council officers on the project.
“As Highfields continues to grow, it’s critical we invest in the roads, services and public spaces that support our residents, local businesses and future development.
“We invite the community to find out more about this vital upgrade,” Cr Taylor said.
The information sessions are as follow:
Highfields Cultural Centre
Tuesday 10 March 2026
6.30pm–8pm (presentation at 7pm)
Highfields Village Shopping Centre
Saturday 14 March 2026, 9.30am–11.30am (drop in anytime)
Tuesday 17 March 2026, 2.30pm–4.30pm (drop in anytime)
Key upgrades include:
- Three new roundabouts on Highfields Road at Kratzke Road / O’Brien Road, Lauder Drive and Rogers Drive
- Realignment of the Kratzke and O’Brien roads intersection, with Kratzke Road to connect directly to a newly constructed “New O’Brien Road”
- Stormwater improvements and underground relocation of water, sewer, power and telecommunications
- New landscaping, trees and planted areas to create a more attractive, shaded and pedestrian-friendly streetscape.
Cr Taylor acknowledged the support of the Queensland State Government, which contributed $20.1 million through the Residential Activation Fund Round 1.
“This project delivers critical trunk infrastructure to unlock new dwellings across greenfield and infill sites which addresses long-standing infrastructure barriers in Central Highfields,” she said.
