Residents invited to help plant 3,000 trees for National Tree Day
Published on 02 October 2025
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is committed to transforming local parks and ensuring a brighter, greener future by planting more than 3,000 trees in honour of National Tree Day.
The Region’s residents are being encouraged to put their best green thumb forward and get involved in this year’s tree planting event at Black Gully Park on Saturday 11 October, 2025.
Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said National Tree Day offers residents a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature and engage in important conservation efforts.
“By participating, you’ll have the chance to meet like-minded individuals, learn more about the importance of enhancing our green spaces, and play a hands-on role in improving biodiversity for our parks,” Cr McMahon said.
TRC has joined in Planet Ark’s annual National Tree Day since 1996, providing our Region with positive and lasting change for almost 30 years.
“Every year has been an investment in providing a better, greener future for our Region and it’s wonderful that each year that investment grows,” Cr McMahon said.
Although National Tree Day is officially held in July, TRC’s celebration takes place later in the year when climate conditions are optimal, ensuring the newly established trees have the best chance to thrive.
On the day of the event, Council will provide the trees to be planted, and volunteers will be available to assist anyone who needs a helping hand.
“This year we have 25 different native species and over 3000 individual trees ready to go.”
“These species have been specifically chosen for their benefits in supporting our Region’s wildlife.”
“I encourage everyone to come along to the event; you don’t need any experience all you need is enthusiasm,” Cr McMahon said.
