Council's Construction & Maintenance crews drive Flood Recovery effort
Published on 18 August 2025
Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) Construction and Maintenance teams are working across the Region’s northern, central, and southern areas to deliver an $18 million 2024 Flood Recovery Program.
TRC Construction and Maintenance (Infrastructure Services) portfolio spokesperson, Cr Carol Taylor, said the teams are repairing vital road and drainage infrastructure that was damaged during the January 2024 flood event.
“The scale of the recovery effort reflects the significant impact the January 2024 floods had on our Region’s road network,” Cr Taylor said.
“Our Construction and Maintenance teams are doing an outstanding job to restore essential road infrastructure and supporting the operational reliability of our network.
“By delivering these works through internal teams, Council is leveraging local expertise and ensuring cost efficiency by using Council resources to meet recovery goals.
“Council acknowledges that keeping up with the ongoing demand for road maintenance across the Region is a constant challenge. Budget constraints and the scale of our network often leads to community questions about visibility of works by Council.
“Our teams are working on the ground every day and, in some areas, they are collaborating across districts and combining resources to focus efforts where most needed.
“This collaboration helps ensure we meet the strict Queensland Reconstruction Authority funding deadlines for the 2024 Program, while delivering the best possible outcomes for our communities."
The 2024 Flood Recovery Program is expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2025, marking another significant milestone in Council’s commitment to restoring and strengthening essential public infrastructure.
Funding for these works is part of the broader Reconstruction of Essential Public Assets (REPA) program, supported through the joint Australian and Queensland Government Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
