The Toowoomba region is on an upward spiral of economic development with significant infrastructure set to transform productivity, accessibility and amenity. This includes major investments in the Toowoomba CBD, Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport, the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and the Brisbane to Melbourne Inland Rail Project. 

Economic development strategy

The Bold Ambitions 2038: Toowoomba Region Economic Development Strategy is a blueprint for enhancing the vibrancy, liveability and economic sustainability of the Toowoomba region. The intent of Bold Ambitions is to encapsulate the vision for the region's economic development. The strategy builds on our work and achievements to date in growing the regional economy. While we are the lead facilitator of the strategy, its implementation relies on the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise, public and private sector resources, active partnerships, the business community and all levels of government.

The Toowoomba Regional Economic Development Vision 2038 sees the region as an internationally competitive, vibrant, diverse and inclusive economy that provides opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and investment that enhance the region's lifestyle and environment.

Community Growth Action Plans

In 2015 a number of Community Growth Action Plans were developed.

Success for each community is best determined by the residents themselves, based on their aspirations, ideals and value systems.  In order to better understand what these are, Council facilitated a number of meetings with community members to draw out what issues each town is facing, identify what the potential solutions and opportunities might be and to determine which ones should be focussed on as a priority.  These have been documented in plans for five communities which can be found under the 'Economic development documents'.
