An upgraded section of Oakey-Biddeston Road has re-opened today (Friday, October 3, 2025) to traffic.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Construction and Maintenance (Infrastructure Services) portfolio spokesperson, Cr Carol Taylor, said the project’s Stage 2 works involved upgrading the roadway to an eight-metre sealed formation from the Oakey Creek bridge to the intersection of Oakey-Biddeston Road and Oakey-Crosshill Road.
“Stage 2 also involved reconfiguring the intersection of Oakey-Biddeston Road and Oakey-Crosshill Road to change the through route to Oakey-Biddeston Road,” Cr Taylor said.
“This has resulted in a new T-intersection being formed with Oakey-Crosshill Road, which will improve the intersection angle and safety for all road users. The upgrade offers an improved standard for heavy vehicles that use this important transport route.
“These works follow on from the Stage 1 upgrade works from the Warrego Highway to the Oakey Creek bridge crossing.
“An initial seal was completed earlier this week, and the final seal will be completed in the coming warmer months.
“Council is appreciative of the community’s patience while we undertook this vital upgrade project, which started in May this year with a full road closure.
“I thank our Infrastructure Services Group team who completed this important road safety improvement.”
The project is funded under the Australian Government’s Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP) and Toowoomba Regional Council. Council is very appreciative of this funding.
SLRIP funds infrastructure projects that improve the productivity and safety outcomes of heavy vehicle operations across Australia.
