Environmental warriors and treasure trovers are in for a treat with Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) set to open its second Reviva Reuse Shop at Kleinton in May.

Following the success of the Reviva Reuse store at the award-winning Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility, TRC has again partnered with Resource Recovery Australia to help spread the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling household waste.

Like the existing Wellcamp store, the Kleinton incarnation of the Reviva Reuse Shop will sell a diverse line-up of products including furniture, appliances, collectables and tools.

TRC Water and Waste Committee Portfolio Leader Cr Nancy Sommerfield said the new Reviva Reuse Shop would provide residents with more opportunity to buy repurposed and one-of-a-kind items, while encouraging recycling and diverting unwanted materials from landfill.

“The current Reviva Reuse Shop at Wellcamp diverts more than 400 tonnes of the region’s waste from landfills each year,” Cr Sommerfield said.

“Reviva’s work highlights the best use of resources and shows how the ‘circular economy’ places value on materials that are recycled for a new purpose.

“I’m delighted there is now even more opportunity in the Toowoomba Region for residents to donate and repurpose a wide range of items and used materials.”

Cr Sommerfield added that household goods, bikes, good quality furniture, books or building supplies are just some of the items that can be donated to the new Reviva Reuse Shop instead of being put into landfill.

“The new Reviva Shop will complement the smaller Trash and Treasure service which is available at eight Council waste management facilities across the region,” Cr Sommerfield said.

“Working together as a community to reuse and upcycle, we reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill and make a meaningful difference to the environment while supporting a successful social enterprise.”

Reviva Reuse Toowoomba Manager Jeff Prater said Resource Recovery Australia was excited to partner with TRC to open a second reuse shop in Toowoomba.

"Reviva isn’t your typical reuse shop, we offer a great range of beautifully presented, high-quality second-hand goods that won’t cost the earth,” Mr Prater said.

"This second Reviva shop provides real employment and training opportunities for locals who need a chance. We are working towards a true, circular economy with local, green jobs."

The new Reviva Reuse Shop, located at the Kleinton Waste Management Facility, is scheduled to open Friday 7 May and will be open Friday to Sunday from 10am until 4pm.

Residents who wish to donate unwanted goods to Reviva for resale can do so by dropping off items to the Resource Recovery Area (Area B) at the Kleinton Waste Management Facility at any time.
