Dr David Lyness was born in China in 1920. His family subsequently moved to New Zealand, where he studied Psychology, Medicine at Dunedin University.
Dr Lyness came to Toowoomba in the 1930s and was at one time the Acting Medical Superintendent at Baillie Henderson Hospital.
Dr Lyness once owned the park, and all the native trees in this park were planted by Dr Lyness and his wife Anne.
