Applegum Walk

From Toowoomba drive north on the New England Highway. The Bullocky's Rest Park is located just before arriving in the Crows Nest township on your right.

There is a picnic area with a gas barbecue, shelters, picnic tables, water and toilets, located next to the waterbird habitat in Bullocky's Rest Park.

A replica bullock team is featured in the park.

Description: Applegum Walk connects Bullocky's Rest Park to Hartmann Park. The track from Bullocky’s Rest follows Crows Nest Creek downstream passing the Pump Hole, then up Bald Hills Creek to Hartmann Park a total distance of 2,053m. From Hartmann Park, you can return to Bullocky’s Rest via the town centre or along Esk or Dale Streets.

Bullocky's Rest Park was originally used as a camp for bullock teams hauling timber from Cooyar to Toowoomba because of the fresh water supply. A steam pump was located at the Pump Hole to provide water to the Butter Factory in Creek Street, which operated from 1905 to 1969. Local mixed farms provided cream to the Butter Factory and the remaining buttermilk was piped down Three Mile Road and fed to pigs.

Hartmann Park was donated to the Council in the 1970s by Mr Hubert Hartmann. In 1992 the former Crows Nest Shire Council developed the Applegum Walk as a job skills project to connect points of local interest - Bullocky's Rest Park, the Waterbird Habitat and Hartmann Park.

The Waterbird Habitat was developed by the former Crows Nest Shire Council in 1994 with the construction of two low weirs and associated revegetation. Applegum Walk and Hartmann Park Circuit are largely undisturbed bushland exhibiting a range of geological, vegetative and historical features within the town area.
