Trust in God’s plan, Rev. Stu Cameron tells Mayoral Prayer Breakfast

Wesley Mission CEO Reverend Stu Cameron this week (Tuesday, May 12, 2026) said his organisation’s founding ideals of serving the community in spirit, word and deed were just as relevant for people who are experiencing life’s modern challenges.
“Keep pressing into God’s presence. Trust in God’s plan, which is always better than our own plans,” Rev. Cameron told 400 people at the 32nd Toowoomba Mayoral Prayer Breakfast at Rumours.
“In times where we are seeing people come to us who have not struggled previously, we at the Wesley Mission, like others, have the privilege of providing a listening ear and a helping hand.
“Australians are a generous people. The first step when looking for help is often the hardest, but when people put their hand up seeking help, others are only too happy to reach their own hand out ready to assist.
“We are more than what we accumulate. We must rejoice in the meaningful relationships we have. We are made to love God and each other and must not be conned by investing our hope in material things, which will let us down.
“English writer G. K. Chesterton’s assertion that, ‘We do not want a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world’, is a reminder of the church’s call to bless and serve the community.”
Rev. Cameron cited the continuing work of Lifeline, that was founded by the Wesley organisation, and efforts in gambling reform as just two examples of practical assistance for the community, among the Wesley Mission’s many other functions.
He also referenced the Winter Shelter Toowoomba program, that sees participating Toowoomba churches offering overnight accommodation and food for residents in need across winter, as worthwhile practical assistance.
The morning started with an Acknowledgement of Country by Pastor Ada Boland followed by a scripture reading by Kath Warner and a prayer by Rev. Peter Mayen of St James’ Anglican Church. Noted Toowoomba musician Brendon Walmsley and his band performed three items with former barber and hairdressing instructor Geoff Lingard’s testimony outlining how anyone can use their skills and life experience to make a meaningful difference in other people’s lives.
Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald thanked all sponsors and supporters at the Mayoral Prayer Breakfast for their ongoing generosity.
He said funds raised from the 2026 Mayoral Prayer Breakfast will be presented to the Toowoomba Hospice and PCYC Toowoomba in coming weeks.
Pastor Andrew Hoey, who is the Senior Minister at Rangeville Community Church and Toowoomba Mayoral Prayer Breakfast committee chair, also thanked the guest performers and speakers along with all supporters for contributing to the 32nd annual fundraiser.
The Toowoomba Mayoral Prayer Breakfast was started by former Toowoomba City Council Mayor Ross Miller to raise funds for drought relief. The event has raised more than $335,000 for charities across the Region.
