TRC welcomes Statewide Waste Infrastructure Roadmap

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) welcomes the Queensland Government’s announcement of a Statewide Waste Infrastructure Roadmap, describing it as a positive step toward long‑term planning, regional investment, and improved waste outcomes for communities across Queensland.
TRC Waste portfolio spokesperson, Councillor Melissa Taylor, said the roadmap reflected priorities Council had been advocating for over several years.
“Council strongly supports the Queensland Government’s commitment to a Statewide Waste Infrastructure Roadmap,” Cr Taylor said.
“During the State’s consultation on the Queensland Waste Strategy, TRC consistently advocated for greater statewide coordination and stronger consideration of regional needs, and it is pleasing to see our feedback has been heard.”
Cr Taylor said the roadmap has the potential to support significant opportunities for the Toowoomba Region.
“A clear, statewide plan can help give councils, industry and investors greater confidence when planning for the future.”
“We look forward to understanding how this roadmap may support regional investment, job creation and improved waste services over time, particularly for communities in our region,” she said.
Cr Taylor also welcomed comments made by Queensland Minister for the Environment and Tourism and Minister for Science and Innovation, Andrew Powell MP, at the Future Waste Resources Symposium 2026 in Brisbane recently.
“It was encouraging to hear the Minister acknowledge the unique circumstances faced by regional councils in Queensland’s waste journey,” she said.
“We hope this recognition is reflected in the upcoming release of the Queensland Waste Strategy and the associated waste levy framework.”
Cr Taylor said TRC is eager to see how the roadmap will guide the reinvestment of state funds in significant waste infrastructure.
“We’re hopeful the Statewide Waste Infrastructure Roadmap will lead to further investment in significant waste facilities across the Toowoomba Region,” she said.
“Our community consistently welcomes opportunities for the State Government to invest in the Region.”
