We're committed to supporting residents and businesses as we navigate the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic. 

At a Special Meeting of Council on Wednesday 29 April 2020, we announced our Stage one $10.5 million immediate support initiative.

  • $8.7 million directly to ratepayers
  • $1.8 million in other measures

In determining our stage 1 support initiatives, Council considered previously announced support by Federal and State Governments and where we could provide additional assistance. Watch the full meeting video.

  • $125 rate concession for residents. Valued at $8.7million across the Region.
  • Water rates and charges discount extended to 23 June 2020. Valued at $40,000 - $60,000 across the Region.
  • Interest waived on overdue rates and charges until 30 June 2020*. Valued at $300,000 across the Region.
  • Dog registration due date extended to 30 September 2020**. Valued at $3,000 across the Region.
  • Credit card surcharge waived on transactions performed until 30 June 2020. Valued at $15,000 across the Region.
  • Sale of land due to overdue rates postponed for 2020. Valued at $14,000 across the Region.
  • $250,000 operating agreement payment to Jondaryan Woolshed.

Micro grants program allowing community or sporting groups to apply for up to $499 for the following (valued at $45,500 across the Region):

  • Sporting equipment
  • Online training and professional development
  • Resources and promotion (physical and online)
  • Equipment, repairs and upgrades
  • Communication tools for community groups (e.g. website, facebook, email, communication platforms, booking platforms)
  • PPE and blue cards for volunteers.

  • Pause debt recovery until 30 June 2020 (announced on 26 March 2020). Valued at $41,000 across the Region due to lost interest revenue.
  • Preference for local businesses to supply goods and services up to the value of $200,000 (announced on 26 March 2020)
  • Shorter payment terms for local suppliers of 14 days (announced on 26 March 2020). Valued at $21,000 across the Region due to lost interest revenue.
  • Refund fees for bookings in Council facilities (announced on 26 March 2020). Valued at $10,000 across the Region.
  • 100% rent relief for small businesses occupying Council properties from April to June 2020*. Valued at $310,000 predominantly in Toowoomba City.
  • Refunds of 50% on 2019/20 food licence refunds for small businesses. Valued at $250,000 across the Region (the majority of businesses are in Toowoomba City).
  • Refunds of 50% on 2019/20 personal appearance retail licence for small businesses. Valued at $3,500 across the Region (the majority of businesses are in Toowoomba City).
  • No parking fees from 30 April 2020 to 30 June 2020 (time limits still apply)**. Valued at $570,000 in Toowoomba City.
