July 7, 2026: Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) wishes to advise the community that the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility at O'Mara Road, Wellcamp, will be temporarily closed from 7am tomorrow (Wednesday, July 8) until further notice following a fire at the site this evening.
Council officers notified the Queensland Fire Department after noticing a fire had started in the Residual Waste Building.
While the fire was contained to that building, the facility will remain closed while Council undertakes a comprehensive assessment of the affected area and determines the extent of any damage.
Council is working closely with emergency services and relevant authorities to ensure the site is safe before reopening to the public.
TRC CEO Sal Petroccitto said community safety and the wellbeing of staff remain Council's highest priorities.
"Our immediate focus is on assessing the situation and ensuring the site is safe. We appreciate the community's patience while this important work is undertaken," Mr Petroccitto said.
At this stage, Council is unable to provide a timeframe for reopening. Updates will be provided as further information becomes available, including any alternative waste disposal arrangements that may be required.
Residents are encouraged to monitor Council's social media channels for updates.
