With about 30 road closures still in place, Toowoomba Regional Council continues to monitor the ongoing weather conditions.

While a number of local creeks have begun to recede, Mayor Paul Antonio said about 30 road closures remained in place.

“It may appear that some roads and bridges are safe to cross when there is little water on the surface however, we need to check whether there is any structural damage before we re-open these to the public.

“Please obey the signage. It is impossible for Council to sign every defect and danger on the roads so please be alert and drive to the conditions and as always – if it’s flooded, forget it.

“While conditions have improved, some communities remain isolated, such as Cecil Plains. To ensure the community is taken care of, along with QFES, we’ve conducted air-support, delivering essential supplies for our residents.

“With the weekend coming up, we continue to ask residents to be careful on the roads.

“We will have crews out and about over the weekend with additional resources on standby should they be needed.

“There is more rain forecast for next week so please plan ahead and ensure you are prepared for any future rain event.

“We’re also encouraging people to let us know of any damaged roads they come across, as this helps us prioritise repairs and divert crews to the appropriate areas.”
