Where a business proposes to serve or sell alcohol at a premises, it will be necessary to apply to the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation for a Liquor Licence.
As part of the Liquor Licence application, the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation will contact Council for written advice to confirm if the business has appropriate land use approval to allow the issuing of a Liquor Licence.
Alternatively, business operators may choose to contact Council prior to making an application for a Liquor Licence to obtain the written advice from Council to include in the application. However, it should be noted that requesting such advice from Council will incur a fee
Additionally, Community Liquor Permits are required by unlicensed organisations (e.g.: parent and citizen associations, non-proprietary clubs and not-for profit organisations etc.) who wish to sell or supply liquor on a temporary or one-off occasion. Community Liquor Permits are often required for school fetes, rodeos and sporting events. For community events or groups needing to obtain a Community Liquor Permit should contact the of Liquor and Gaming Regulation for details of the application process.
Requesting Council’s written response for liquor licence
For a written response from Council, the following will be required:
- Submit the Development - Written advice generally in accordance and confirmation of accepted development category application (PDF for print) and send through to development@tr.qld.gov.au.
- Include the location of the property, details of the business activity and the information you require to be confirmed.
- Include your contact details, so we can provide the response.
- Pay the relevant fee in accordance with Council’s Fees and Charges.
Requests can be made via email to development@tr.qld.gov.au, or in hard copy and lodged at any of Council’s Customer Service Centres
