Metal detection in open spaces
Open space areas in the Toowoomba Region may be managed by Council or regulated by the Queensland State Government.
In Council owned parks and sporting fields you can use a metal detector but you must not damage any surfaces, dig up the soil or make holes in grass or gardens. In our parks you can search for items in grass, playground softfall, or woodchips. This activity does not require consent provided you leave the area as you found it.
Before using a metal detector on Queensland State Government controlled land, refer to fossicking rules and responsibilities.
Prohibited areas
You are prohibited from from using metal detectors in cemeteries and heritage areas. Do not enter private property to conduct metal detection activities without permission.
Lost and found property
Any items you find of value must be taken to your local police station. Read more about the laws in Queensland regarding lost, found and stolen property.
