We're upgrading numerous parks to service our growing communities to the meet our defined standards in our Open Space Strategy. This strategy provides a framework for protecting, enhancing and managing our open spaces.

The parks mentioned below were identified in the Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) plan which has been created to ensure we efficiently cater for population and employment growth.


Carla Crescent Park, Westbrook

The upgraded local recreation park will consist of:

  • 3 or 4 activity options
  • landscaped park trees
  • water bubbler
  • bench seats
  • picnic table
  • a path to the key activity area.

A budget of $306,230 has been assigned.

Start date

Anticipated start March 2022.

Finish date

August 2022.

 


Lions Park, Hodgson Vale

This district recreation park final components of upgrades will consist of:

  • Vehicle turnaround facility to improve car and caravan movement within the existing car parking area.
  • All accessibility compliant pedestrian path connections to sports fields.
  • Driveway connection down to sports field and centre.

$868,712 has been assigned to this project in the 2021/22 budget.

Lions Park Hodgsonvale

Start date

Anticipated start between September to December 2021.

Finish date

June 2022.


Pioneer Park, Goombungee

This district township recreation park upgrades will consist of: 

  • 6 - 8 activity options for a range of ages
  • bollards to the perimeter
  • park shade trees
  • water bubbler
  • seats
  • picnic tables
  • barbeques
  • shade structure (natural shade preferred) over play node
  • rubbish bins
  • pathway connecting activity areas to the external path network
  • park lighting
  • bike racks
  • park signage.

A budget of $729,050 has been assigned for the 2021/22 financial year.

Thiess Park, Darling Heights

The upgrades for completion of this district corridor recreation park will consist of:

  • play equipment additions
  • shade structure (natural shade preferred) over play node
  • bollards to the perimeter

  • water bubblers
  • seats
  • picnic tables
  • barbeques 
  • rubbish bins
  • pathway connecting activity areas to the external path network
  • park lighting
  • bike racks
  • park signage.

A budget of $853,489 has been assigned for the 2021/22 financial year.

Thiess Park Master Plan Extract

Start date

Start (continue from 2020/21) upgrades July 2021.

Finish date

June 2022.

 

Carly Hibberd Park, Kearney's Spring

The development of this district recreation park upgrade is planned for the next 3 years:

A budget of $250,000 has been assigned in the 2021/22 financial year with construction works planned to commence late March including (weather permitting):

  • creating approximately 800m of bike trails;
  • installing eight on-street car parking spaces on Velodrome Drive to the road frontage of the park;
  • installing and connecting water supply mains and meter;
  • connecting electricity mains and installing a switchboard cabinet.

The upgrades for the completion of the park planned for completion by late 2025, weather permitting, will include but not be limited to:

  • installation of a playground;
  • construction of pedestrian pathways;
  • installation of a BBQ area with shelters and seating
  • installation of a toilet block;
  • landscaping.

The upgrades of this district recreation park will consist of:

  • barbeques
  • rubbish bins
  • shelter structures
  • pathway connecting activity areas to the external path network
  • park lighting
  • bike racks
  • park signage.

A budget of $848,000 has been assigned in the 2021/22 financial year.

The district recreation park upgrade will consist of:

  • detailed design

A budget of $330,000 has been assigned for the 2021/22 financial year.

A budget of $747,536 has been assigned for the 2021/22 financial year.

East Creek linear corridor, Toowoomba

The district corridor recreation park upgrades preliminarily within JJ Leadbetter Park and Ballin Park will consist of:

  • detailed design

  • park shade trees

A budget of $600,000 has been assigned in the 2021/22 financial year.

Queens Park, Toowoomba

In 2013 the Queens Park upgrades commenced in a series of coordinated stages. The Queens Park master plan is planned to be completed by June 2022 and cost $5.6 million as a joint initiative of the Queensland Government.
