Snakes are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and it is an offence to kill, injure or take snakes from the wild. If you do encounter a snake, stay calm and back away to a safe distance.
When a snake is discovered on private property, please contact an accredited snake relocator (these can be found in Yellow Pages), or for advice call the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection on 1300 130 372.
If you discover a snake on Council property in an area of high traffic i.e. public toilet block, park play equipment, call us on 131 872 and provide Customer Service staff with a location and description of the snake.
