Family riding bikes through park

We have partnered with Bicycle Queensland to deliver a new ride to school initiative for primary schools across the region.

Bicycle Queensland are seeking expressions of interest from primary schools across the Toowoomba Region, to implement their Bicycle and Road Safety Education program and activities at schools in 2022. The program includes:

  • active school travel lessons or one off workshop (preparing for the ride and bicycle road safety)
  • early learning road safety lessons
  • bicycle skills immersion (2 hour workshop for years 5-6)
  • parent information nights (aimed at alleviating parental concern and building community confidence in riding)
  • road safety and bike basics online modules (tailored to suit different age groups)
  • beginner’s bike maintenance workshops (face to face and online)
  • route planning (consideration of school streets, catchment area, school entry points and risk assessment), route recommendations and producing wayfinding maps.

The program is delivered by qualified teachers to develop students’ skills, knowledge, and confidence to move around by bike in their community, and are aligned to the Australian curriculum to support the development of safe choices, healthy habits, and student independence.
