Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) this week (Tuesday, June 17, 2025) endorsed shifting to a yearly funding round for the competitive Community Grants Program.
TRC Community Development, Facilities and Tourism portfolio spokesperson Cr James O’Shea said the one funding round for the 2025/26 financial year would open from July 1, 2025.
Cr O’Shea said community and not-for-profit groups would be given longer than the regular month-long submission timeline, with August 12, 2025, the cut-off date for the coming year.
“Eligible community groups are welcome to lodge applications. The seven funding programs that will be open for applications include: Community Economic Development Grants, Community Support Grants, Environment Grants, Events Support Grants, Sports Tourism Event Grant, Sport and Recreation Grants, and Youth Support Grants,” Cr O’Shea said.
(The Cultural and Arts Support Grant is undergoing additional changes and will not be open from July 1. It is anticipated that applications for this category will be called later this year.)
“As there will not be a funding round in February 2026, groups that typically deliver their projects or events in the second half of the financial year will need to lodge applications from July 1 this year to be considered for financial support.
“In recognition of this change, and subject to budgeted funds, Council will look to advertise its Micro Grants Program from October 2025 through to May 2026.
“Eligible organisations may apply for Micro Grant funding up to $1000 per application, subject to various conditions.”
Cr O’Shea said applicants were encouraged to speak with Council’s Community Development Officers (CDOs) by calling 131 872 to receive assistance with respective applications.
“This will help to ensure applicants align their project with the correct application form via our SmartyGrants platform,” Cr O’Shea said.
