Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting businesses, regional chambers of commerce and progress associations to attend the inaugural, quarterly Regional Business Forum, which will be held at Pittsworth’s Town Hall from 5.30pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald said Council was pleased to launch the quarterly forums in conjunction with the Darling Downs Regional Alliance to offer an informative and consultative networking event.
Mayor McDonald said Council was committed to engaging with the Region’s business community and building on its role as a Small Business Friendly Council.
“Council sees merit in meeting with business people across our Region to discuss local issues and opportunities and how representative bodies like our Chambers of Commerce, Progress Associations, the Darling Downs Regional Alliance and the higher levels of government can assist their endeavours,” Mayor McDonald said.
“People from small, medium and large businesses are welcome to attend the forums to hear from, and speak directly with, members of peak bodies, elected representatives and Council’s economic development staff.”
TRC Economic Development portfolio spokesperson Cr Edwina Farquhar said the Pittsworth Forum would detail the development of Council’s Economic Development Strategy, discuss current and emerging business opportunities and review barriers to growth and sustainability.
Cr Farquhar said Council was in the process of updating its Community Growth Action Plans, and critical to this exercise was the input from local business communities.
“Council is also keen to see strong uptake by relevant not-for-profit and community groups for our Economic Development Grants to assist their projects. With the next round released in February 2025 now is the time to start considering worthwhile projects that can deliver real impact throughout our Region. Our Economic Development team and community Development Officers can assist with scoping potential projects and with the grant process,” Cr Farquhar said.
“The Forums are a chance to discuss unrealised potential throughout the Region, as well as any impediments to growth in their areas. Business resilience, dealing with change and disruption, will also be a topic for discussion.”
Cr Farquhar said future Forms would be rotated among towns across the Region.
Forum details: Tea and coffee from 5.30pm, with the meeting running from 6pm – 7.30pm.
Location: Pittsworth Town Hall, Park Street, Pittsworth.
