Jam sessions have amped up across the Region as homegrown musicians get ready to fight it out in Battle of the Bands come August as part of Live and Local Toowoomba.

Hosted by Council’s Toowoomba Regional Youth Leaders, Battle of the Bands will be a standout opportunity for musicians and bands aged 12 to 25 to showcase their talents, make industry connections and kickstart their musical careers by entering this year's competition.

Entries are now open and there’s more than $7000 in prizes up for grabs with prizes for the top three acts in each category.

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said Battle of the Bands is the perfect opportunity for the Region’s emerging talent to blaze a trail in the local music scene.

"Battle of the Bands will promote local youth bands and acoustic artists across our Region,” Cr O’Shea said.

“We already know there are a number of incredibly talented young artists in our Region but we want to create more opportunities for these emerging artists as well as bring them to new and bigger audiences.

“The majority of these musicians have been attending the QMusic Connect workshops held throughout June and applying those learnings to their practice, so we are expecting some first class performances.

“Battle of the Bands will build on the work done to date as part of the Live and Local Strategic Initiative to foster industry skills and collaboration and encourage more live music events for the community.

“There has been a long history of our youth committees hosting live music festivals showcasing our region’s talents and we excited for the 2021 competition bringing diverse artists from a wide range of musical backgrounds.”
