This project will upgrade sections of Mort Street to help to improve traffic flow to-and-from the new Second Range Crossing. Mort Street will be upgraded from the intersection of Jellicoe and West streets to the Second Range Crossing off-ramp. There will be intersection upgrades at Hogg/Griffiths streets, North Street and West/Jellicoe streets. Work will be carried out at various locations in the sections from Mort, Jellicoe & West streets intersection to Black Gully; Black Gully to the Griffiths Street / Hogg Street intersection; and Griffiths Street/ Hogg Street intersection to the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing interface.
The project will also include significant drainage upgrades and landscaping. The upgraded Mort Street will provide a new northern entrance into the city from the Second Range Crossing and will cater for future growth in Toowoomba’s transport network.
Works include the relocation of services, including undergrounding of the power supply, a significant upgrade of stormwater systems and formalisation of car parking in the section between Jellicoe Street (West) and North Street.
Council has allocated $50.5 million over four years for both Mort and Boundary Street projects to ensure the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing integrates with our local road network.
Residents will be advised in advance of construction works and associated impacts. We are seeking to minimise disruptions wherever possible. Businesses will remain open during construction and residents are encouraged to support local traders.
Planning & design commenced in 2016.
Construction on the first section expected to begin in mid-2017.
Target completion date
The project will be completed by late 2018 to coincide with the opening of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.
There will also be connections from Toowoomba to the TSRC at Boundary Street and at Charlton.
