We’re constructing a new CBD pedestrian walkway and multi-functional public space at 174 Margaret Street. Named in recognition of our Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, Carnival Lane will be a safe, vibrant and welcoming connection and community meeting place for workers, shoppers and visitors to our city. It will provide green space, public art, equitable access for people of all abilities, weather protection and a place for community events.

This project is part of Council’s Laneway Strategy for the CBD and the overarching Toowoomba City Centre Masterplan.

$1 million has been allocated to complete works in our 2020/21 budget.

Start date

Construction is planned to commence in June 2020, weather permitting.

Target completion date

The project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2020, weather permitting.

Progress update - 3 August 2020

Over the past two months, the existing room and walls were dismantled and removed and structural steel portal frames to support neighbouring properties were installed.

The next steps include dismantling the scaffold facing Margaret Street, installing in-ground plumbing and drainage, installing in-ground electrical conduits and pouring the concrete slab for the laneway.
