The Highfields Library project is an initiative to construct a library, customer service centre and community meeting facility in Highfields. The new facility will replace the existing temporary library which supports around 52,600 visitors each year.
It will be located on the corner of Balmoral Street north of O’Brien Road in the Highfields Cultural Precinct. The location will offer safe pedestrian connections between other community facilities in the precinct including the Highfields Cultural Centre and Highfields Fitness and Recreation Centre. In addition the location is adjacent to the Charles and Motee Rogers Bushland Reserve which provides an opportunity for the facility’s design to embrace the unique natural setting, e.g. through outdoor reading areas.
The $1.5 million funding for 2019/20 will see the finalisation of the design of building and external roadworks, all development and building approvals as well the beginning of some roadwork construction. The Highfields Library project will deliver a modern purpose-built library, customer service centre and community meeting facility in Highfields. Construction is planned to commence in 2020 and the new facility is expected to open in 2021.
The community will have an opportunity to help shape the design of the new facility through public consultation in late 2019. To register your interest in the upcoming consultation, please register online or contact us on 131 872 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
