This project will involve repairing the structure and heritage fabric of the Railway Goods Shed as well as landscaping and parking around the shed. Service upgrades, such as connection of the water main and sewer will also be undertaken. The Railway Goods Shed is intended to be a mixed use facility to be used for commercial and community activities as well as events. The shed will be a critical interface between existing infrastructure and the future parklands.
The $10 million Railway Goods Shed project is 50% funded by the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions program, through the Department of State Development, and 50% funded by Council. $3.175 million has been allocated in 2017/18 for the project.
The Railway Goods Shed project is Stage 1 of the implementation of the Railway Parklands Master Plan, which will drive growth in the area from Victoria Street to Bridge Street.
