The Queensland Government has responded to community concerns about responsible dog breeding by introducing a Queensland Dog Breeder Register to regulate the sale and supply of dogs and puppies and give dog buyers peace of mind when looking for a new fur-ever friend. The register was introduced on 26 May 2017.
What dog breeders must do
The new standards and guidelines for dog breeders are available on the Queensland Government biosecurity website.
What to do before buying a dog from a breeder
If you are considering buying a new dog or puppy please check the Queensland Dog Breeder Register to ensure you are buying from a registered breeder with valid supply numbers.
