Downs Little Lifeguards

The Downs Little Lifeguards school based drowning prevention program is coming to Crows Nest, Clifton, Millmerran and Oakey. For the full article see the corresponding pool slider below.

However, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years or over or by the legal parent or guardian of the child, at all times during their stay in the aquatic area. For 0-5 year olds and non swimmers, a high viability wrist band must be worn as means of identification, a parent or guardian needs to be in the water at all times and within arms reach of the child.

The Cecil Plains Aquatic Centre participates in the Royal Lifesaving Society's KEEP WATCH program - remember your children are your responsibility.

Downs Little Lifeguards program is coming to Clifton

We are bringing the drowning prevention program to your local pool. School students in grade 4, 5 and 6 are invited to participate in the national award winning Downs Little Lifeguard drowning prevention program aimed at decreasing the number of drownings in our inland waterways.

School groups are FREE and can be booked into the program by contacting Joanne Thompson (pool lessee) on 0490 831 636.. The Downs Little Lifeguard team will be at your local pool on Tuesday 6 December 2017.

The program is based around:

  • Survival swimming and water safety
  • Rescue and recovery techniques
  • Resuscitation

Students will:

  • Learn CPR
  • Practice survival swimming
  • Learn rescue techniques
  • Try various safety entries and exits
  • Use flotation items such as surf boards, eskys, buckets, ropes and PFDs

Downs Little Lifeguards extension program 

The Downs Little Lifeguards offers an extension program that takes the experience out of the pool and into various aquatic environments.Children aged 9-17yrs and capable of swimming 50m continuously can join us at:

  •  Miami Beach Beach experience day, 25 Feb 2018
  •  Leslie Dam Dam Busters Day, 11 March 2018

Families will participate in ocean, dam and creek awareness activities and practice skills to potentially save a life. This is not a learn to swim program.

You can enrol for the extension program by booking online or by calling Milne Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre on 4688 6330.
