You don’t need to travel to Europe this year to experience the magic of Christmas Markets, with Cobb+Co Museum hosting Hand Made Under the Stars on Thursday 30 November 2017.
Now in its seventh year, Hand Made Under the Stars is the ultimate twilight shopping experience with unique gifts from more than 50 selected local artisans.
Toowoomba Regional Council’s Tourism and Events chair, Cr Geoff McDonald, said the meet-the-maker event will also feature food stalls, live music and craft demonstrations.
“Christmas is a magical time of year in Toowoomba and Hand Made Under the Stars has evolved to be an iconic regional event the whole family can enjoy,” Cr McDonald said.
“A key feature of this year’s market will be the opportunity to watch Cobb+Co Museum’s wood artisan and factory manager, Andrew MacDonald, carve beautiful wooden reindeer decorations, which will be sold for $20 on the night.”
A gourmet tasting experience is also expected to draw crowds.
“The Toowoomba region produces exceptional food and I am personally looking forward to the new gourmet experience and tasting local wine, cheese, chocolates and produce,” Cr McDonald said.
“People will also have the chance to stock up on gourmet gifts and Christmas provisions, with Preston Peak, Holland Wines, 4 Brothers Brewing, Stanthorpe Cheese, Bunnyconnellen Olive Grove, Old Style Russian Fudge & Coconut Ice, Tea-Woomba, Russian Caramel Delights, Piers Pickles & Preserves, Diana's Christmas Cakes, Gecko Grove Fine Food and Puddings and Amanda’s Fudge Factory all attending.”
Open from 4pm to 8pm, the free event will also feature jewellery, toys, quilts and other unique gifts.
“There is something truly special about giving and receiving presents that are handmade or homemade; gifts that are unique and tell a story,” Cr McDonald said.
“This is a chance for people to chat with local artisans about their design process, material selection and how they make their quality products.”
Food and drinks will be available for purchase, with Cobb+Co Museum café serving a special menu on the evening.
“It is a busy time of year, but Hand Made Under the Stars is one of those unique, relaxing and special events you just don’t want to miss,” Cr McDonald explained.
