Construction on the Pittsworth Industrial Precinct Enabling Project (PIPEP) to upgrade Gap Road and its intersection with the Gore Highway and install sewerage infrastructure within the Pittsworth Industrial Precinct is underway.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has successfully obtained joint funding from the State Government through the Building Our Regions Program to deliver this project.
TRC Mayor Paul Antonio said the PIPEP is a major project for the region which will improve safety on Gap Road and provide a critical road link between the Industrial Precinct and the wider region, state and national transport networks.
“The PIPEP will improve traffic flow and safety on Gap Road for all road users and provide access to the Industrial Precinct for industry and freight providers servicing the agricultural, construction and resource sectors,” Mayor Antonio said.
“The Gap Road upgrade will also provide full access for Performance-Based Standards (PBS) level 3 vehicles similar to double road trains (type 1).
“The project will involve road widening and overlay, including drainage on Gap Road from the Gore Highway to Helens Street, constructing a left-turn lane at the intersection of the Gore Highway and increasing the length of the right turn lane on the Gore Highway.”
TRC Water and Waste Committee chair Cr Nancy Sommerfield said the sewer upgrade will consist of constructing a gravity sewer, rising main and a sewage pumping station in the Industrial Precinct.
“It will deliver important sewerage infrastructure to enable expansion and development within the Industrial Precinct,” Cr Sommerfield said.
“The overall goal of the PIPEP is to promote industrial development and economic growth in the area.
“The PIPEP will create employment in Pittsworth and the wider Toowoomba region during and post construction.”
Residents will be advised in advance of construction works and impacts and Council will seek to minimise disruptions where possible. Access to properties will be maintained during construction.
The PIPEP will be completed by mid-2018, weather permitting.
