All local government elections are managed by Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ). If you have any questions relating to elections, please contact the ECQ.
During the 'caretaker period' of an election, a number of restrictions apply to Council and Councillors. The 'caretaker period' extends from when nominations are called for the quadrennial election, until the declaration of the polls. The aim of this protocol is to clearly separate the Councillor's role as a Councillor and that of a candidate and to minimise any perception that Council resources are being used for electoral purposes. The protocol is also intended to provide guidance on how it is proposed to maintain Council's services and routine activities during the caretaker period.
For more information please refer to the 2.24 Caretaker Period Protocol.
